Memory & Reading

Why these programs work. We are using a multi-sensory instruction through Sensory Integration Training. We are able to make changes needed for each child. We are teaching automaticity and fluency in a way that keeps your child on task for an entire hour.

Activity one: This activity is the most time consuming and causes some students to become frustrated. However, this is one of the most important activities. They are getting their brains warmed-up and ready to learn. Share involves four separate sections. Within each section your child will be developing background information they will use to complete the rest of the lesson. To begin this process your child will link their visual, auditory and kinesthetic modalities together. The final product will result with a more focused and longer retained attention span.

Activity two: This activity is based on "Neurological Impressed Learning" which pairs visual with auditory stimulus and includes kinesthetic processing to increase awareness in both parts of the brain. Echo increases the speed your child can automatically recall information. Each session gradually increases in speed.

Activity three: This paper-pencil section involves completing a worksheet with words your child learned in SHARE. The primary focus is to work on proper handwriting techniques.

Activity four: In a classroom environment and everyday life a person uses their long-term memory, but some people have difficulty recalling information even from a short time ago. This activity will strengthen your child's ability to recall information. Each child must listen and/or read the word from the lesson and select the correct definition.

Activity five: The goal of this activity is to develop visual and auditory closure techniques, which will increase the student's comprehension ability.

Activity six: The computer presents a word, phrase, or sentence, depending on the level of the child. Then, the student repeats what the computer says and writes the word, phrase, or sentence on paper. If your child has low auditory memory skills, they may find this activity extremely difficult to write notes from oral dictation.

Activity seven: This section builds the ability to recall information and develops fluent visual decoding. Each student tries to beat his or her time. We are looking for the student to break their time each session.

Activity eight: This activity develops a fluent recall by a rhythmic timed presentation of information. Your child will learn how to increase their focus and attention span.
